Product Rant: Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips

Hey, everyone!

Today I'm doing a review on Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips, which have been all the rage in the beauty community. Everyone raves over these would-be miracle workers, but are they really worth the money?

Well, the answer is no.

I know they are really tempting, with their intricate designs and promise of manicure-worthy results in under five minutes, but the truth is that this product just doesn't deliver. It fails to be convenient and affordable, which are ironically its main selling points.

Ahem.

  1. Price: These nail polish strips range in price from $8 to $10, depending on where you buy them, which is absolutely ridiculous for a one-time use. These nail polish trips claim to last 10 days (I will get to that in a minute), which makes it illogical to pay $1 a day to wear the nail polish.
  2. Design: Most of the designs are very, very cute, which is, I think, what tempts people to buy them. On this front, I have nothing to criticize except the finish of the nail polish. It claims not to need a topcoat, but the strip looks quite plasticky on its own.
  3. Duration: I know they claim to last 10 days without a topcoat, but mine were chipping after three or four days, which doesn't even happen with regular nail polish.
  4. Convenience: This is mostly where the nail polish strips frustrated me. The whole point of them is an easy application with salon results, but applying them was a pain in the butt. I wasn't even doing it on my own! I tried getting other people to help me, but even they had trouble! The adhesive on the back of the strips is nowhere near strong enough to make application easy. They don't stick evenly, and filing them to the shape of your nail is easier said than done.
Lastly, they make a MESS when you take them off. I am not joking when I say that I needed to go over each nail with acetone at least three times before I got most of the adhesive off, and even then I had residue all over my nails.

Sufficient to say I won't be purchasing this again, and I most certainly would not recommend it to anyone!

  1. Thanks for the review! I've been debating about trying these, especially since they have the Valentine's ones on clearance at my Walmart for $5 right now. I would only use them on an accent nail though so that I can get more uses out of them. :)

  2. Thanks for reading! :) Accent nails are such a good idea, and I think for $5 dollars, it might be worth a shot! Keep in mind, though, they start drying out as soon as you break the seal on them, regardless of whether or not you peel them off!
